Baby Boomer's Love Story

"Something's Gotta Give"

Comedy and Romance

2 hrs. 13 min.
New York City music executive Harry Langer (Nicholson) is a 63-year-old man of experience who only dates much younger women. His world is turned upside-down, when he has a heart attack while he and his young girlfriend, Marin (Amanda Peet) visit her mother's East Hampton Beach home. In the mean time her divorced playwright mother, Erica (Diane Keaton) decided to visit her home at the same time.
The story plot got thicken when Nicholson's girlfriend had to goback to the city, as he is left in the care of Erica and his doctor (Keanu Reeves). The two men end up competing with each other for Erica, as they both fall in love with her.

The movie takes its title from the old Johnny Mercer song that 56-year-old Fred Astaire sang to 24-year-old Leslie Caron in 1955's "Daddy Long Legs." the song was about "irresistible forces" and "immovable objects".
As a baby boomer, I found that it is refreshing to see a movie about a boomer generation. It is a down to earth comedy with a touch of heart wrenching moment but it is honestly great. It is about time that we have a feel-good movie about our generation. With all the television and movies nowaday, chokefull of anecdotes, central in our lives to remind us of our vanities, our fears, as old and pretentious as we are . The film is for a maturing audience and it is a good movie to make you laugh and smile. Diane Keaton is naked in one scene.
